RE: The English-Speaking Union – Herefordshire Branch FinalFriday 28th November 2008 They did perform excellently in a year where the standard reached a new high. The winning team and roles: Speaker: Sarah Johnson Questioner: Meggan Jarvis Chairperson: Cecily Pytel. Sarah spoke in defence of the statement “Euthanasia should not be legalised” and was awarded the best individual performance as judged by Cllr John Stone: last years winning team also included the outstanding individual award for Evie Howard. There were five other competing finalists – Fairfield, Wigmore, Bishops, Weobley and Minster College respectively: Fairfield were awarded the runners-up position. We now qualify for the Midland Regional Final at Cheltenham College on Saturday March 7th 2009. In last years event we came a creditable second to The Cotswold School with Nick Pellant gaining the Best Individual Performance award. The standard in the Regional Final is incredibly high – no Herefordshire school has ever won it in the thirteen year existence of the competition!
The white building that has appeared close to the pond has been causing the pupils to wonder what it is. From a natural composting outside loo to the caretaker’s hut suggestions have been coming thick and fast. It is in fact a small observatory which will house a powerful telescope. Watch this blog for photographs.
We are on the list of the 518 schools recognised for adding value to students’ achievements in last year’s GCSE results.
Well the cameras have rolled and the popcorn has been eaten and we have successfully brought the big screen to Ludgwardine. Casino Royale was the show and everyone who came along left with smiling faces indicating that they had enjoyed themselves. The new equipment went down a storm it was like being at the cinema truly.
During the interval everyone had time to catch up with their friends and refresh themselves and the whole evening went really quickly. As a new event we were unsure how it would be received and if anyone would turn up.
Yes they did and a healthy £307.04net was raised which of course will go to supporting the school 100%. We would like to have some more shows. The question is what shall we show? Now I know that we can not please all the people all of the time but if anyone would like to suggest a good film that would appeal to an audience please let the PTFA/School know and we will see what we can do. A huge thank you to everyone who support this event and look forward to your continued support.
Many thanks
Lusanna (PTA)

The school play took on another twist this year with the boys performing in the first half and a mainly all female play in the second half. Both shows had great qualities and brought rapturous applause at the end.
